This Norfolk Virginia engagement session was sunny.

I mean really, Really, REALLY sunny!

The ironic thing is that there was a chance of rain in the forecast, and Rosie said that she was worried it wouldn’t be bright during their photo shoot…

Luckily though, the rain clouds kept moving and we had gorgeous sunshine for their photos!

(complete with cotton candy clouds!)

Norfolk Virginia Engagement Session

How did you two meet?

    — We met through a mutual friend about twelve years ago, started talking again about two years ago and haven’t stopped since. Our friendship grew over 800 miles of distance, blossomed into a love, and we made it work until I moved here last autumn. Our mutual love for community engagement and public service has helped unite us in our love for each other and the world around us.

When did you know he was the one?

   — It wasn’t any one moment that I can point to, it was more a steady realization that Matt just “fit” into my life as if he had always belonged there and it’s one of the best gifts I could imagine. From geeking out over shows or games we both enjoy and inventing our own silly phrases that only we understand, to changing to a better job and moving across the country, Matt’s support and encouragement has made me realize and celebrate my own strengths. He cares about my family and wanted to be part of it, as I did with his. We are stronger together and I couldn’t ask for a better partner.

What was the proposal like?

  — We went to downtown Norfolk to check out the Grilled Cheese Bistro for lunch; originally he wanted to do a dinner there before a symphony later that night, but with their weekend hours he adapted his plan! We had an amazing meal, and he insisted we walk down to Town Point Park. When we reached the secluded point next to the Nauticus I wanted to take a panoramic photo — he took advantage of this moment of distraction to get the ring ready; he told me was having a wonderful day with me, and wanted to spend the rest of our days together, and asked if I would marry him! I said yes, of course! Later that night we went to the symphony together and it was just a delightful day all around.

What are some of your favorite things to do together?

   — We love taking walks together, having deep (and not so deep) conversations, we enjoy cooking together, and we are both big readers and video game nerds, so we certainly enjoy sharing those hobbies as well.

If you had to pick a word for your relationship, what would it be?

   — Affirming.

What are three dreams/goals for your marriage?

(1) To continue to have new experiences together.

(2) To contribute positively to the world and our local community as a team.

(3)  To somehow find the free time to clear through the backlog of movies, shows, books, and video games that we want to enjoy.
