When you start talking about what types of pictures the clients want to create, and they come back saying that she wants to have a bit of a “Mary Poppins” feel to them, you know it’s going to be pretty amazing! I was so stoked because Annie and Eric totally rocked their romantic retro engagement shoot! I loved the classy look they both chose, I mean, is there anything better than a guy in a well cut suit?! But what I loved most was getting to learn about these two lovelies and see just how perfect their love is!

Annie and Eric, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to photograph this romantic retro engagement shoot for y’all. Eric and I are super stoked to join y’all for the adventure of a lifetime as you get married out in Colorado next year!

Cheers to laughing together, going on fun adventures, and creating amazing memories.

Romantic Retro Engagement Shoot

How you two meet?

We met online; more specifically we met on OKCupid. I had just moved here from California and my roommates were out of town for the weekend so I was all alone. I decided that if i reactivated my account people would tell me I was beautiful and I could go on being a strong independent woman. Then Erik messaged me “would you rather have pie or cake” and I had to respond; it was an impossible question. He said we should meet up. After our first date I deleted my account and never looked back.

When did you know he was the one?

I knew I was falling in love after the 2nd date when we were zip lining. I was terrified, so I started singing Disney Songs on the rope ladder in the trees and he started singing too!
We both realized that this was it for each other after spending a fantastic week in Vermont for my spring break.
However, Erik also claims that he was fairly certain in March when he came down with the flu and I spent the weekend nursing him back to life.

What was the proposal like?

Absolutely magical!
Erik proposed at disneyland. He surprised me first when my sisters showed up at the gates before we entered in the morning. I thought one sister was in China (she had sent me pictures of her continental breakfast that morning). As we were waiting in the line i heard voices and tuned around and there they both were. My best friends were also there as well as his best friend, brother, and sister.
Erik and I stepped away from the group to listen to a fiddler and they were going on Pirates of the Caribbean. We were going to meet them at the exit and he walked us into the Blue Bayou restaurant were they were all seated for an amazing lunch. (He’d had the reservation for 3 months!)
At the end of lunch Erik disappeared and returned with a glass rose (from Beauty and the Beast) and put it in front of me. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. To which i responded “yes” amidst tears and smiles.

What are some of your favorite things to do together?

We love to explore the area. We love history, museums, cooking, hosting parties, hiking, and general adventures. Our favorite date was when we narrated our own tour through the Edgar Allen Poe house.

If you had to pick a word for your relationship, what would it be?

Ineffable
(and for those that don’t know, here is the definition from Webster’s Dictionary: too great or extreme to be expressed or described in words – I love it!)

What are three dreams/goals for your marriage?

– To always learn, grow and explore together.
– To continually strive to glorify God through our relationship
– To have a long and happy marriage
(Erik wanted to add to have babies)
