Let me start this post by saying that I don’t normally photograph sessions like this nautical cake smash.

It makes my heart happy to photograph couples, and weddings, and capture amazing family memories.

Doing a cake smash is not really in my lane.

However – having brought all the nautical elements together for this session (and seeing how insanely cute Charlie is!) – almost makes me want to do more like this one!

And with the amazing cake from Diana’s Sweet Tooth – it was a sure recipe for success!

1st Birthday Nautical Cake Smash

This session was extra special, because it was for my little Cha-wee-wee (as our son Jett started affectionately calling him).

I was there right after Charlie was born, capturing his hospital photos, and getting to watch him grow from a tiny little nugget into the big, handsome boy that he is today.

Wow!

So much can change in a year!

Charlie’s daddy is deployed right now, so being able to create some extra special memories to celebrate this milestone was even more important.

At first, Charlie was all about the cake…

That lasted for approximately 10 seconds, then he decided he was done with it.

We tried to get Charlie to hang in there and eat/play with more of the cake, but he wasn’t really having it.

Then, when he realized he couldn’t get the icing off his hand – he was done.

Charlie said, no thank you!

All in all, a super cute session, and I’m so glad that we got to document this amazing time!
