That is such a great memory Michael! I am NOT a baker (which is why I team up with my sister for that aspect of the advent calendar), but I hope that my kids will grow up with these great memories to look back on like you do :)

The biggest Christmas tradition I remember as a kid was making chocolate fudge with my mother. Her cousin in DC would mail us a huge box of unshelled pecans, and that sent things into motion. We would shell the nuts and then make fudge (the cooked kind on the stove), pour into big bowl and then the beating would begin. She and I would take turns beating it with a big wooden until it got to the right consistency then spread into a big pan to cool. I got to lick the spoon !!! Although there were 6 other kids in our house, I was the only one that loved doing it with my mom. Unfortunately, I never continued the tradition after I left home, or started it with any of my kids. But it is a very fond memory.
